Eriu is a queen of the Tuatha dé Danann, a Celtic people who descended "from a mist" in the west of Ireland on Beltaine. The Tuatha were a fair race, versed in arts, warfare, and magic. Eriu stands at the Rock of Divisions at the Hill of Uisneach, the ancient spiritual center of Ireland and Eriu's eventual burial place. Here the Milesians, a new race, agree to name the Emerald Isle after Eriu, hence its name Éire, or Ireland.
