The Salmon of Knowledge

The Salmon of Knowledge jumps out of the Well of Segais, where hazel nuts fall from trees into the water and create “bubbles of mystical inspiration.” No one except Nechtan, the protector of the well, may approach this sacred place. But the goddess Boinne did not heed his warning. As she drew close to the well, a giant wave erupted from it and chased her all the way from Kildare to the ocean near Drogheda, creating the Boyne River. The Salmon of Knowledge still lives here, and to drink from the water can result in the Second Sight, or mystic ability to see what others cannot.
